1 CONC      Funeral services for George Reuter, 67, who died late Friday, May 
1 CONC 10, 1963 in Xavier Hospital, Dubuque, after a 2 week illness, were held 
1 CONC Monday at 9:30 A.M. in St. Andrews Church, Tennyson, with Rev. Lawrence 
1 CONC Kieffer of St. Thomas officiating at the requiem mass.  Burial was in the 
1 CONC adjoining cemetery. A son of the late Ruth VanNatta and Benjamin Reuter, 
1 CONC Mr. Reuter was born in Paris Township, January 8, 1896.  He is a retired 
1 CONC farmer and was married to Elizabeth Glassmaker, who survives.
1 CONT      Besides his wife he is survived by 3 sons, Irvin, Lancaster, Donald, 
1 CONC Potosi and Frances, Hazel Green; 2 daughters, Miss Eileen Reuter, Potosi 
1 CONC and Mrs. Donald Cox, Dubuque; 3 brothers, Virgil Reuter, Platteville, 
1 CONC Ernest and Lester Reuter, Potosi, and 13 grandchildren.  The rosary was 
1 CONC recited both nights at the Eckstein Funeral Home in Potosi.

1 CONC morning, November 8, 1959, in the Lancaster Memorial Hospital after a 
1 CONC lingering illness.
1 CONT      Mr. Reuter was born in Cherokee, Iowa.  He moved to his present farm 
1 CONC home as a child with his parents and has since resided there.  Survivors 
1 CONC are his wife, Louisa, 2 sons, Grover and Edison, both of Lancaster, 4

1 CONC      Mrs. Wilbert Johnsen was called by death May 26, 1934.  For several 
1 CONC months she had not been well.  Finally she was compelled to submit to an 
1 CONC operation in a local hospital for gallstones and appendicitis.  The 
1 CONC operation was greatly feared because her mother had died following a gall 
1 CONC stone operation and two years ago her little daughter was taken following 
1 CONC an appendicitis operation.
1 CONT      The body rested at the home of her father, Ben Reuter at Tennyson, 
1 CONC until Tuesday A.M. when the funeral services were held at St. Andrews 
1 CONC church with Rev. Father Haas officiating.  Burial was in St. Andrews 
1 CONC Cemetery.

1 CONT      Funeral services for Lester E. Reuter, 81, who died September 27, 
1 CONC 1987 in the Living Center Nursing Home, Lancaster, after an extended 
1 CONC illness, were held Tuesday, September 29 at 11:30 A.M. in St. Andrews 
1 CONC Church, Tennyson with Rev. Thomas Monaghan officiating.  Burial was made 
1 CONC in the church cemetery.
1 CONT      Mr. Reuter was born March 3, 1906, in Harrison Township, the son of 
1 CONC Bernard and Ruth VanNatta Reuter.  He was married to the former Mildred 
1 CONC Pitzen August 9, 1927, who survives.
1 CONT      Other survivors are seven sons, Myron, Lancaster, Norbert of 
1 CONC Darlington, Gregory of Platteville, Jerry, Clifford, Lawrence, and 
1 CONC Douglas all of Potosi; seven daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Mercille) Floerke, 
1 CONC Plain, Mrs. Clarence (Ida Mae) Fure, Mrs. Ambrose (Jarda) Timmerman both 
1 CONC of Cassville, Rita Noble of Lancaster, Mrs. Francis (Karen) Dailey of 
1 CONC Platteville, Mrs. Randall (Jane) Rietman of Portage, and Mrs. Thomas 
1 CONC (Marjorie) Sutton of Starke, Florida.  There are 52 grandchildren and 33 
1 CONC great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three sons, Leonard in 
1 CONC 1931, Vincent in 1933, and Richard in 1955.
1 CONT      Lester was married to Mildred Pitzen on August 9, 1927, and they 
1 CONC observed their 60th anniversary on Aug. 9, 1987.  Mrs. and Mrs. Reuter 
1 CONC farmed until retirement in 1970.  He was a member of the Knights of 
1 CONC Columbus and was an avid sportsman all of his life.

1 CONC Sunday, February 19, 1979 at Lancaster Memorial Hospital.
1 CONT      Mrs. Reuter, the former Louisa Gillilan, was born in rural Potosi, 
1 CONC July 24, 1894.  She attended the Browner School and later married Bernard 
1 CONC Reuter, who preceded her in death in 1959.
1 CONT      The Reuters farmed in the Cornelia area.  She moved to Platteville 
1 CONC in 1960.  She was a member of the Cornelia Congregational Church.
1 CONT      Surviving are one son, Edison Reuter, Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 
1 CONC four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her 
1 CONC husband, one son Grover, died in 1969.

1 CONC Potosi for many years. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Reuter 
1 CONC transferred from Potosi, settling in Arthur.

1 CONC two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Bernadette) Henry, Racine, and Mrs. Ken

1 CONC Mergen-Boll Funeral Home.  The Rev. Lowell Bush officiated with burial in

1 CONC 8 P.M.
1 CONT      Reuter, the son of Ernest Henry and Mary Ann Robinson Reuter was 
1 CONC born Dec. 26, 1928, in the Detroit area.  He attended St. Thomas Andrew 
1 CONC grade school and graduated from Potosi High School.
1 CONT      He was united in marriage to Doris Fullbright.  In 1958, he married 
1 CONC Jean Ewing.  She died Feb. 7. 1991.  He then married Shirley Holmes.  
1 CONC They have spent their summers in Platteville and winters in Florida.  He 
1 CONC worked for various plumbers and steam fitters in the LaCrosse area.
1 CONT      Survivors include his wife; Shirley Holmes Reuter, of Leesburg; a 
1 CONC daughter, Sandy Reuter, of Platteville; three sons, Ronald (Leilani) 
1 CONC Reuter of Omaha, Neb., Rocky (Judy) Reuter of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Kim

1 CONC      Wilbert P. Johnsen, 71, of Platteville, died Wednesday, June 11, 
1 CONC 1975, at the Platteville Municipal Hospital after a long illness.
1 CONT      Mr. Johnsen was born in Platteville June 19, 1903.  He attended the 
1 CONC Platteville Public Schools.  In 1923, he married the former Mary Ida 
1 CONC Reuter of Tennyson who died in 1934.  He then married Vondra Chandler on 
1 CONC Oct. 18, 1937. They lived in Platteville where he was employed at Sheer 
1 CONC and Harker meat Market for 16 years.  Mrs. Johnsen went to work for 
1 CONC Caradco Company in 1953 where he worked until his retirement in 1965.  He 
1 CONC was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church.
1 CONT      Surviving are his wife, Vondra; one daughter, Mrs. Ray (Jean) 
1 CONC Helsell, Campbellsport; six sons, Cletus B. Johnsen, Mt. Carroll, ILL., 
1 CONC Ronald Johnsen, Platteville, Robert Johnsen, Madison, David Johnsen,

1 CONT      The son of Wilbert and Mary Ida Reuter was born April 23, 1923 in 
1 CONC Tennyson.  On Sept 9, 1958, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Dolphin 
1 CONC in Reno, Nevada.  He was an automotive and Marine mechanic veteran of 
1 CONC WWII.  He was awarded the WWII victory medal, the Army of Occupation 
1 CONC Medal, and the Berlin Airlift Device.  He was a member of the VFW and the 
1 CONC Moose Lodge.
1 CONT      Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jeff, Thomson, Illinois, and 
1 CONC Bruce, Marietta, Georgia;  a daughter, Mrs. Calvin (Rose Marie) Sears, 
1 CONC Gainsville, Florida; seven grandchildren; his step-mother, Mrs. Vonda 
1 CONC Johnsen; five brothers, Ronald Johnsen, Stoughton, and David and Dale

1 CONC Center country school and Platteville High School. On May 9, 1927, she 
1 CONC was united in marriage to Virgil Reuter. They farmed in Harrison Township 
1 CONC before retiring and moving to Platteville. Mr. Reuter died on Oct.30, 
1 CONC 1978. Velma was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the Council of 
1 CONC Catholic Women.
1 CONT      In addition to her husband, she was proceeded in death by two 
1 CONC brothers, Lavern and Elmer.
1 CONT      Survivors include: a daughter, Meredith (Harold) Heins of Hebron, 
1 CONC Ind.; two sons, Aaron (Carol) Reuter of Platteville, and Lowell (Pat) 
1 CONC Reuter of Platteville; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one

1 CONT      Timmerman was a student at UW-LaCrosse and a member of the National 
1 CONC Honor Society.  She attended Badger Girls State in 1979 and was the 
1 CONC editor of the Cassville High School yearbook in 1982.  Surviving are her

1 CONT      I was born 7 September 1858, just before the men in the family began 
1 CONC enlisting for the Civil War.  Most people were in favor of freeing the 
1 CONC Negroes, but a few from the south did not want to let go of their slaves.
1 CONT      In some cases there were considerable hard feelings about it.  Two 
1 CONC of Mother's brothers, and three of Father's, enlisted in the Army.  So I 
1 CONC hear very much of what was going on in the War.
1 CONT      Mother often was called upon to read to the older men of the 
1 CONC locality.  I can hear her dear voice yet as she read on and on, and 
1 CONC sometimes had to stop as the men would scold and disagree among 
1 CONC themselves.  I can remember when they marched away to the beat of a 
1 CONC drum.  The rain came down in torrents, running down the rutted streets of 
1 CONC Potosi much as it does today.  
1 CONT      In the battle of Gettysburg, one of the my uncles wounded and died.  
1 CONC (Probably Levi) Another uncle who served three years re-enlisted.
1 CONT      Though I didn't know what it was all about at that time, I think I 
1 CONC got the point.  Now I must tell you my views of the period in my locality.
1 CONT      Men, women, and children worked their patches of ground, the largest 
1 CONC probably twenty acres, of corn, wheat or buckwheat, and not much oats.  
1 CONC They were poor people, few having more than one cow, perhaps ten or 
1 CONC twelve hogs, and some sheep.  They lived in huts which were more like 
1 CONC hovels, and saved to make things right.
1 CONT      The ground was ploughed with a "diamond" plow, pulled by one or two 
1 CONC horses, or a yoke of oxen.  The grain was broadcast by hand and covered 
1 CONC with a homemade harrow.  It was cut with a hand scythe which sometimes 
1 CONC had a "cradle".  It was raked and bound by hand, and threshed with a 
1 CONC flail.  Then it was taken to a mill to be made into flour.
1 CONT      Corn shucks and fodder was saved for winter livestock feed, and the 
1 CONC cattle ran the nearby forests in the summer.  Hogs could get plenty of 
1 CONC acorns in the fall.
1 CONT      My father sold wood in the Georgetown for three dollars and a half 
1 CONC or four dollars a cord.  
1 CONT      The women worked in the fields as well as keeping house.  They 
1 CONC picked and spun wool into yard and cloth, which they made into clothes 
1 CONC and knit stockings.  They spun flax and made sheets, pillow cases, and 
1 CONC mens shirts.  They also made soft soap (which was kept in a barrel) of 
1 CONC wood ashes, lye and hog fat, and tallow.  They scrubbed clothes by hand, 
1 CONC using a scrubbing board if they had one, and boiling the white things 
1 CONC white.  A small piece of Castile soap might be had when a new baby came.
1 CONT      Those were trying times.  But Father was a progressive man and lived 
1 CONC the good things of life.  He liked law-abiding citizens, good neighbors, 
1 CONC and good schools.  He saw that we had the best he could afford.  Our home 
1 CONC was always open to our friends.
1 CONT      Our family was large, but we always had plenty to eat.  We got deer, 
1 CONC rabbit, squirrels, coons (I never liked them) quail, pheasants, pigeons, 
1 CONC wild ducks and geese, all from the woods.  We had an orchard of apples, 
1 CONC plums, grapes, currants, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries, and 
1 CONC lots of wild fruit.  
1 CONT      There was always a garden of vegetables; honey, maple syrup, 
1 CONC sorghum, butter and cream from the cows, meat and buckwheat pancakes.
1 CONT      Though my people were not a success financially, our home just 
1 CONC radiated love.  Since I am the oldest child, I enjoyed their love and 
1 CONC advice the longest.

1 CONT      Wife of the late Henry Johnsen, was a daughter of the late Henry 
1 CONC VanNatta and his wife Eliza, nee Toulouse.  She was born July 23, 1864 in 
1 CONC Harrison township, Grant County, and with the exception of a few years 
1 CONC spent in Iowa, she was a life-long resident of Platteville and vicinity.
1 CONT      On February 26, 1920, she was united in marriage with Henry Johnsen, 
1 CONC in which union of 29 years she served faithfully as a Christian help-mate 
1 CONC to him and as a true mother to his children.  Her husband died a year ago 
1 CONC and for the last eleven months she made her home with her brother and 
1 CONC sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray VanNatta on E. Mineral St., where after 
1 CONC failing in health for several years she also fell asleep on Sunday night, 
1 CONC February 19, reaching the ripe old age of 85 years, 6 months and 27 days.
1 CONT      Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Peace Lutheran church, Platteville, 
1 CONC for the last 30 years and for many years also was an active member of its 
1 CONC Missionary Society.  She was a devout and faithful Christian, who with a 
1 CONC child-like faith believed in God and her Savior and sincerely sought to 
1 CONC serve him.  She dearly loved her church and made deligent use of its 
1 CONC services so long as health and physical strength permitted and even in 
1 CONC her declining years the Divine means of grace were her joy, comfort and 
1 CONC peace.  She was especially admired by many for her exceptionally keen 
1 CONC mind and her Christian knowledge and loyalty.
1 CONT      Two memorials were given in her honor, one by the Missionary Society 
1 CONC and another by neighbors and friends, both were given for the benefit of 
1 CONC Oakwood Lutheran Homes at Madison.
1 CONT      Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 22, from the Thomas 
1 CONC Funeral Home and from Peace Lutheran Church.  Her mortal remains were 
1 CONC laid to rest in Hillside cemetery with Rev. H.W. Krull officiating.
1 CONT      The immediate relatives surviving are five step-sons, Edward 
1 CONC Johnsen, Wessington, S.D., Walter, Harvey, Clarence and Wilbert Johnsen 
1 CONC of Platteville, one step-daughter, Mrs. Alta Harms, Platteville; two 
1 CONC sisters, Mrs. Floyd Likens, LaCrosse, WI, and Mrs. William Carroll,

1 CONC      Mrs. Anna Reuter, widow of Ben Reuter, passed away suddenly on Dec. 
1 CONC 26, 1942 at the home of her nephew George Reuter of Potosi, WI, at the 
1 CONC age of 72 years.
1 CONT      She was born on Oct. 20, 1870 in Harrison Township.  She was the 
1 CONC daughter of the late Henry and Eliza VanNatta.  In 1893 she was united in 
1 CONC marriage to Joseph Morris.  To them was born one child Nellie.  In 1924 
1 CONC she was again united in marriage to Ben Reuter.  They spent their married 
1 CONC life in Tennyson until his death in 1939.  Since then she was residing in 
1 CONC Platteville.
1 CONT      She is survived by her daughter Nellie (Mrs. Harry Stark) of 
1 CONC Platteville, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters; Mrs. 
1 CONC Henry Johnsen of Platteville, Mrs. Floyd Likens of LaCrosse, WI, and Mrs. 
1 CONC William Carroll of Ashland, WI, 3 brothers, Tom of Potosi, WI, Vivian of 
1 CONC Lancaster and Ray of Platteville and numerous nieces and nephews.
1 CONT      Mrs. Reuter had a large circle of friends and well known and loved 
1 CONC by all.
1 CONT      Funeral services were Tues. A.M. at 9 at the Riter-Haudenshield 
1 CONC Funeral home and 9:30 at St. Marys with Rev. Gracy officiating.  Burial 
1 CONC in St. Andrews cemetery at Tennyson.

1 CONC 1966, at the Platteville Municipal hospital following a brief illness.
1 CONT      Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2 P.M. at the Mergen 
1 CONC funeral home.  The Rev. R. R. Doering, pastor of the First English 
1 CONC Lutheran church officiated.  Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
1 CONT      Mr. VanNatta was born on a farm in Potosi township, April 6, 1882.  
1 CONC He attended Brawner school.  Mr. VanNatta was united in marriage to the 
1 CONC former Margaret McPherson on June 20, 1902.  They farmed at Cornelia 
1 CONC after their marriage.  The VanNattas moved to Dakota for one year and 
1 CONC then returned to Platteville.  They have made their home in Platteville 
1 CONC for the past 30 years.  Mr. VanNatta served as caretaker at the Greenwood 
1 CONC cemetery for 11 years before his retirement.
1 CONT      Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Reese, Mrs. 
1 CONC Linden Pickel, and Mrs. Glen Cardy, all of Platteville; two sons,

1 CONT      William English, age 52, passed away at the sanitarium at Wales, 
1 CONC Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, 1934.  He had been in poor health for the past 
1 CONC several years and had spent some time in Colorado during that period in 
1 CONC the hope of recovering and for the past several months had been at Wales.

1 CONT      He was born near Platteville and spent his childhood and youth 
1 CONC there.  He farmed southeast of Stitzer for about 20 years and for the 
1 CONC past few years when his health became impaired, this city was his home.  
1 CONC He was a splendid citizen, with a friendly, cordial greeting for his many 
1 CONC acquaintances and his early passing is a source of regret to all.  
1 CONT      He is survived by his wife, 3 sons; Chester, Ralph and Almon, 2 
1 CONC daughters, Mrs. Harold Everson of Stitzer and Fern at home; 2 brothers, 
1 CONC John of Madison and Edward of Lead, S.D., 6 sisters Mrs. Opal Bertram of 
1 CONC Waupun, Mrs. Anna Sittkus of St. Paul, Mrs. Bessie Stilger of Portland,

1 CONT      William Henry English, eldest son of John and Sarah English, was 
1 CONC born in Grant County July 9, 1882, and passed to his rest at Statesan at 
1 CONC noon Sept. 9, 1934, at the age of 52 years and two months.  He spent his 
1 CONC childhood and practically all his life in Wisconsin, with the exception 
1 CONC of a short time in Iowa and later in Colorado.
1 CONT      March 7, 1906, he was united in marriage to Laura Brownell and 
1 CONC resided on a farm near Stitzer for about 20 years, when his health became 
1 CONC imparied, so that it was impossible for him to continue to farm.  He 
1 CONC spent some time in Colorado in hopes of regaining his healt and later 
1 CONC returned and resided in Fennimore.  About 14 months ago he went to 
1 CONC Statesan for treatment.  Here he passed away.  He was a splendid citizen, 
1 CONC upright and honorable in all his dealings, and had a friendly and cordial 
1 CONC greeting for his many acquaintances.  His early passing is a source of 
1 CONC sincere regret to his many friends.
1 CONT      He is survived by his wife, three sons, Chester, Ralph and Almon, 
1 CONC two daughters, Mrs. Harold Everson and Fern at home; his mother, two

1 CONT Lancaster--Charles L. Rech, 66, of Lancaster died early Wednesday 
1 CONC morning, April 14, 1999, at the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital 
1 CONC at Shorewood Hills.
1 CONT      He was born on Oct. 14, 1932, in the Town of Beetown, the son of 
1 CONC Henry and Lela (Bass) Rech. Charles attended Pine Knob School in the Town 
1 CONC of North Lancaster and then graduated from Lancaster High School.  
1 CONT      He was a farmer until 1965; and after moving to Lancaster, was 
1 CONC employed by Webb Plumbing and Heating.  Charles served in the U.S. Army 
1 CONC Military Police Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of 
1 CONC the American Legion.  He was an outdoors man who enjoyed fishing and 
1 CONC hunting.
1 CONT      He married Iris R. Ritter on Sept. 6, 1952.  She died on March 23, 
1 CONC 1955.  On June 15, 1957, he married Shirley Richards at the United 
1 CONC Methodist parsonage in Lancaster.  
1 CONT      He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Lancaster; two sons, Randy 
1 CONC and Bob (Noreen Zimmer), both of Lancaster; his mother, Lela Rech, also 
1 CONC of Lancaster; two brothers, Roger (Marilyn) and Stephen (Susan) Rech, 
1 CONC both of Lancaster; five sisters, Shirley (Harold) Sweeney, Dorothea 
1 CONC (Stanley) Eck, Linda (Arvin Weber) Barr, Marcia (Daniel) Mitchell, all of 
1 CONC Lancaster, and Sharon (Steven) Klein of Cassville; and a "special 
1 CONC granddaughter," Kari Vance in Lancaster.
1 CONT      Preceding him in death, in addition to his first wife, were his 
1 CONC father in 1968; and a son, Dana Lee, on Jan. 28, 1954.
1 CONT      The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 17, 
1 CONC at the Metcalfe-Kuenster-Page Funeral Home in Lancaster with the Rev.

1 CONT FENNIMORE - Carroll Lynne (English) Brun Everson, age 96 of Fennimore, 
1 CONC passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at the Fennimore Good Samaritan 
1 CONC Center in Fennimore. Carroll was born on May 6, 1909 in Liberty Township 
1 CONC rural Stitzer, the daughter of William and Laura (Brownell) English. She 
1 CONC married her first husband, Herbert L. Brun on July 8, 1926, in 
1 CONC Livingston. She married her second husband, Harold W. Everson on June 17, 
1 CONC 1930, in Fennimore. Carroll graduated from Platteville High School in 
1 CONC 1925. She then went to work for the Cobb Canning Factory and then worked 
1 CONC for the Lancaster Memorial Hospital as a lab assistant until retiring in 
1 CONC 1977. Carroll was a member of Fennimore United Methodist Church since 
1 CONC Feb. 17, 1948, and a member of the WSCS Naomi Circle. She was also a 
1 CONC member of the Preston Busy Bees Homemakers and the American Legion 
1 CONC Auxiliary for 56 years. Carroll loved working with ceramics, China 
1 CONC painting and canvas painting. She will be remembered as being the Cookie 
1 CONC House Lady and the Baby Shoe Lady. Her baby shoes were sold locally and 
1 CONC worldwide for more than 50 years. On. Aug. 4, 1985 Carroll was 
1 CONC "unofficially" adopted by the Chester Graham Family. She had been 
1 CONC involved in all of their family activities. She was "Grandma Carroll" to 
1 CONC all of them. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. 
1 CONC Survivors include her son, Herbert (Harriet) Brun of Fennimore; three 
1 CONC grandchildren, Cynthia (Michael) Wagner of Oshkosh, Ann (Randall) Alcorn 
1 CONC of Franklin, and Sara (Mark) Bogdan of New Lenox, Ill.; four 
1 CONC great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Bradley Alcorn and Michaela and Laura 
1 CONC Wagner; three great-grandchildren, Mark Bogdan Jr., Jennifer Bogdan and 
1 CONC Adam Bogdan; a sister-in-law, Charlotte English of Fennimore; and several 
1 CONC nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first 
1 CONC husband, Herbert l. Brun on July 27, 1927; her second husband, Harold W. 
1 CONC Everson on Sept. 21, 1957; a sister, Fern Trankle and three brothers, 
1 CONC Chester English, Ralph English and Almon "Ike" English. Services will be 
1 CONC held at the FENNIMORE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Fennimore, at 11 a.m. on 
1 CONC Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005. The Rev. Duane Andrus will officiate. Burial 
1 CONC will be in the Rock Church Cemetery in Clifton township, Grant County. 
1 CONC Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at 
1 CONC the LARSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME in Fennimore, and from 10 a.m. until the 
1 CONC time of services at the church on Wednesday.

1 CONC following a short illness.  He was born Aug. 19, 1912 on a farm near 
1 CONC Annaton, the oldest son of Wm. and Laura English.
1 CONT      He was a former resident of Fennimore, where he operated the Napp 
1 CONC Motel for a time.  He was a long time Pullman conductor and more recently 
1 CONC was employed at the Sears Store in Des Planes.
1 CONT      Surviving are this wife, June, a daughter, Mary Lynn; two sisters, 
1 CONC Mrs. Carroll Everson, Fennimore, and Mrs. Fern Trankle, Dodgeville; and 
1 CONC two brothers, Ralph, California and Almon of Fennimore.
1 CONT      Relatives from Fennimore attended his funeral on Friday, St. 
1 CONC Stephens Church, with interment on All Saints Cemetery in Des Planes, Ill.

1 CONT Ferne W. Trankle, age 86, of Dodgeville, passed away on Tuesday, April 
1 CONC 16, 2002, at Bloomfield Manor Nursing Home. She was born on July 30, 
1 CONC 1915, a daughter of William and Laura Mae (Brownell) English. She 
1 CONC graduated from Fennimore High School, took teacher training courses in 
1 CONC Fennimore and taught school near Platteville until her marriage. On June 
1 CONC 5, 1937, she was united in marriage to Max Trankle. He preceded her in 
1 CONC death on April 15, 1997. She and Max had many fine times and many rough 
1 CONC times, after leaving the family farm near Montfort and moving to 
1 CONC Dodgeville to farm and raise a family. Ferne was a member of United 
1 CONC Methodist church in Montfort and transferred to Dodgeville United 
1 CONC Methodist Church when they moved to Dodgeville in 1955. She was an avid 
1 CONC card player at the Senior Center in Dodgeville and when Max was alive 
1 CONC they loved to go dancing. She enjoyed her family, her grandchildren and 
1 CONC great-grandchildren more than anything in the world. She loved being 
1 CONC independent, her trailer, her little car that she still drove and always 
1 CONC had a good book going. Ferne is survived by her children John M. (Peg) 
1 CONC Trankle of Dodgeville, and Shelley (Mike) Shultz of Savage, Minn.; five 
1 CONC grandchildren, Michael J. Trankle of Dodgeville, Paula (John) Larson of 
1 CONC Stoughton, Laurie (Larry) Bratz of Madison, Courtney (Joe) Juvland and 
1 CONC Mark Shultz, all of Minnesota; Zachary and Hayden Trankle, Lexi Kristina 
1 CONC and Isaac John Larson, and Haleigh Bratz; her sister, Carroll Everson of 
1 CONC Fennimore; her sisters-in-law, Beth Algrim of Montfort, Charlotte English 
1 CONC of Fennimore, and June English of Chicago; many nieces, nephews, 
1 CONC great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, 
1 CONC Max; an infant grandson, Matthew Craig Shultz; and three brothers, 
1 CONC Chester English, Ralph English and Almon "Ike" English. Funeral services 
1 CONC will be held at 11 a.m. on April 20, 2002, at Dodgeville United Methodist 
1 CONC Church. The Rev. Jean Bartlett will officiate. Burial will be held in 
1 CONC East Side Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of 
1 CONC service on Saturday at the church. McGinley-Grogen Funeral Home, 
1 CONC Dodgeville, is ssisting the family. A special thank you to St. Mary's 
1 CONC Hospital and Bloomfield Manor for the excellent care Ferne received while 
1 CONC a patient there. She loved everyone at Bloomfield Manor and was so happy 
1 CONC to came back home where she knew everyone. Bloomfield Manor treated the 
1 CONC whole family
